Can I do Palette Knife Paint-Along™ sessions even if I haven't painted before?
Absolutely! I've designed my classes with easy-to-follow steps that may surprise you with how simple they are. All sessions and live streams are recorded and available in your membership area for convenient viewing at your own pace. You can pause, rewind, or paint along with me as the instruction progresses. It's both easy and enjoyable!
Are the online Palette Knife Paint-Alongs™ cavailable anytime?
Yes, indeed! Our members have 24/7 access to the entire class library. New classes will be live-streamed and recorded, becoming available in the membership area shortly afterward.
What supplies do I need to get started?
You'll find a comprehensive supply list with purchase links. Many of these supplies only need to be bought once.
Isn't painting with palette knives more challenging? Wouldn't watercolor be easier?
Not at all! In fact, my sister, who's a watercolor artist, often finds her method more challenging. With watercolor, even the smallest mistake can impact the entire painting. In our palette knife painting, we embrace imperfections, and if you're not satisfied with something, you can easily paint over it!
Why did you create this Palette Knife Paint-Along™ experience?
In a nutshell: to spread happiness! One of the most heartwarming compliments I ever received was from a man at an art show who said, "You must be a happy person because your art makes me so happy!" Interestingly, scientists now suggest that creating with your hands triggers the release of the same happiness hormones as exercise. I can vouch for that because creating art fills me with joy, and I believe it can do the same for you!
Wouldn't it be simpler to buy individual courses one at a time?
While you can certainly start that way, being a part of my paint-along community offers a more cost-effective option. With your membership, you gain monthly access to all my classes for less than the price of a single course. Plus, my library is continuously expanding with new content each month!
Why are you sharing your techniques and secrets? Aren't you creating competition?
I firmly believe that there's room for everyone to shine in this world. No two artists are alike, and we each have our own unique, original style. If I can help someone find joy by inviting them into my studio to paint alongside me, then that's a path I'm eager to take.
Can we sell the paintings we create?
Absolutely! Please feel free to do so. Unlike some art communities, I want you to have the freedom to be successful in any way you choose. Whether you're creating art for personal enjoyment, gifting, or even considering a professional path, go ahead! The only request I have is that my fellow paint-along friends refrain from selling mass-produced replicas of this work or licensing these paintings for the mass market.
What if I'm unsure about my painting talent?
Talent is not a prerequisite; all you need is the desire to create. I will guide you through straightforward steps, demystifying the process to make it easy, enjoyable, and successful. One of the fantastic aspects is that you can paint at your own pace within the comfort of your own home – no need for travel or huge time commitments. Plus, all sessions will be recorded, so if you can't join live, you can watch and paint along whenever it suits you. You can also watch and rewind as many times as you'd like before you begin.
How did you learn to paint?
My mother was a palette knife painter, but we never painted together. It wasn't until I was an older, single mom, and my last child went off to college that I started painting. I had the inner feeling that I could be an artist but I was unsure how to start. At the time, I couldn't find anyone sharing the secrets to the type of art I adored – "impasto" textured art. Nevertheless, I set up a makeshift studio in my bathroom with paints, palette knives, and my mother's easel. I embarked on a journey following a YouTube video, pausing it a million times to grasp each step. I made plenty of mistakes, especially when it came to creating the desired texture. Fortunately, I'll be sharing all the products I use and my techniques, sparing you the struggle and saving you time and money on your creative path.
Is this similar to a paint and sip event?
Not at all. While you're more than welcome to enjoy your favorite beverage during our sessions, this is quite different from a traditional paint and sip. Our Palette Knife Paint-Along™ community is all about painting along together with me, where I'll guide you step by step through the entire painting process. You'll create a piece of art you can proudly display in your home or give as a heartfelt gift.
How much art experience do I need?
None whatsoever! I'll lead you through each step in a simple and easy-to-follow manner, sharing all my professional tips and tricks to make it a breeze. These Palette Knife Paint-Along™ sessions are perfect for beginners, as I break it down into manageable steps, and you'll be pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable and rewarding it can be.
What if I can't draw?
Drawing isn't necessary in these courses! We'll be painting in a loose style, which is what makes this type of art unique and beautiful. We're creating impressions of things, and the viewer's imagination fills in the details.
Will this be time-consuming?
Not at all, because you can complete as much or as little as you'd like and pause when needed. Each complete Palette Knife Paint-Along™ course typically takes anywhere from 1 to 3 hours, but you can complete it on your own timeline, at your own pace.
I'm worried about making mistakes.
You'll learn to embrace imperfection; there are truly no mistakes in this type of art. Many of my collectors appreciate the imperfect, impressionistic nature of these pieces, which makes them unique and special.
Is painting with a palette knife challenging?
Painting with a palette knife may seem daunting at first, but it's an enjoyable and surprisingly accessible technique. The palette knife works like magic, effortlessly creating the loose and impressionistic look that many people adore. We'll simplify the process in our sessions, making it easy for everyone, including beginners. You'll discover the joy of creating expressive art with the palette knife, so don't be intimidated—embrace it, and let's create art that's both easy and incredibly rewarding.
Is it too late for me to start?
Not at all! It's never too late to start, and I began my artistic journey later in life as well. Many famous artists, such as Georgia O'Keeffe, Grandma Moses, and even Dr. Seuss, started in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond. You have the time and the potential to explore your creative side.
Why do you focus on landscapes, treescapes, seascapes, birds, and florals?
I have a deep love for landscapes, mountains, trees, seascapes, birds and flowers, and I know many others share that love too. Growing up, I had the opportunity to travel with my family due to my dad's military service, allowing me to witness countless breathtaking places. As a nature-loving child, you could often find me playing in the woods or by a creek, finding peace and joy in those moments. That's why I naturally gravitate toward these subjects. Many of my collectors identify with the places captured in my artwork, whether they've been there or visited in their dreams. That's why the pieces we create together will hold special memories for you too.
What if I decide it's not for me?
If you try my paint-alongs for 30 days and find it's not your cup of tea, don't worry! We offer a hassle-free cancellation guarantee, no questions asked. Simply email us at sharon@sharonwestfineart.com at least 5 days before your next billing date, and we'll be sorry to see you go.
Why should you try my paint-alongs?

]]>I love doing my art demo there, it was fun to share my process with the attendees and get to know them in person after so many years of staying apart.
People are fascinated by palette knife artwork I do. I love using a palette knife because it creates such interesting effects, and of course such amazing texture.
You can use the edge of the palette knife to create sharp lines, or graze over an area to create another tone effect.
The bold strokes created by the palette knife create unique artwork unlike some of the more traditional work done with brushes. You can paint on top of wet layers without having to worry about the paint blending, and I love that too.

]]>I even met a famous artist, V. Dave Dame. He and I chatted at length about art, his and mine. After viewing my art (there was a long line to get in) he returned to my booth and gave me a big hug :) because he could see how much I love color as does he. I asked him to write his name down so I could look up more of his art, which I did. WOW! I was so honored to meet Mr. Dame. His art and his artistic career are incredible. If you get a chance, I hope you will look him up.
My art demo was fun as usual, and got folks talking about art. What a blast!
